Equipment

  • blender
  • Mason jar or air-tight container

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dry Sea Moss
  • ½ cup water Use more for looser consistency

Instructions

  • Rinse and clean sea moss. When fresh out of the package, sea moss can have lots of sand, salt and dirt on it. You want to assure you rinse several times--thoroughly.
  • Cover sea moss in water and allow to soak at room temperature for at least 5 hours or overnight. Be sure to soak in a large enough container as it can expand to 2-2.5 times its size.
  • After soaking, rinse a few more times. Moss will turn a creamy translucent color and have a slippery consistency.
  • Add rinsed sea moss to the blender along with ½ cup of water (remember, use more water for looser consistency). Blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Store the gel in the fridge in a glass container. It should keep for 3-4 weeks.
  • When adding sea moss to a recipe as a thickener, it will take (recipe) about 2 hours in the fridge to firm up.
