How to Make Fool-Proof Brown Rice

Equipment

  • Rice Cooker
  • Mesh Strainer

Materials

  • 2 cups brown rice
  • 3 cups cold water
  • a pinch pink salt optional

Instructions

  • Measure out 2 cups of dry, uncooked brown rice.
  • Using a mesh strainer, rinse rice under cool water for at least 30 seconds. This rinses some of the starch away and will prevent the rice from become when cooked.
  • Transfer rice to the rice cooker.
    (Do not over-fill. Abide by your rice cooker's instructions in regard to limitations.)
  • Add water and salt to the rice.
  • Cover with top and turn rice cooker on.
    Sit back and relax. Your rice cooker will do all the work from here.
  • When rice cooker shuts off. Let rice rest for an additional 10-15 min. Resist the urge to dive in right away. The flavor and texture is well worth it!
  • Fluff rice with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula then serve alongside your favorite dish.
