Flax eggs are a crucial part of vegan baking. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this easy egg substitute.
The flax egg will be your best friend when you want to make crepes, pancakes, cakes, muffins, biscuits, “meat”loaf, and more.
Just promise me one thing: you WON’T go off and try to whip this up like egg whites for a merengue. Let me save you some precious time by telling you that it doesn’t work! Not saying I tried it or anything like that *hides face of embarrassment*
The gloopy/gelatinous texture of a flax egg is what makes them act as eggs in that they have beautiful binding power.
Not only are flax eggs a great egg substitute, they also add some healthy goodness to your recipes. Thanks Omega 3’s!
Important note: Though 1 flaxegg is used to replace one small (chicken) egg, it is NOT always a 1:1 ratio. In my own experience, I have found it to work pretty well in quickbread recipes, pancakes, muffins, brownies, cookies, and a myriad of other recipes.
