How many times have you burnt, under-cooked, over-cooked, thrown-out, *insert rice catastrophe*, a batch of rice? Three times? Five times? Lost count? Well, NO MORE! Thanks to the help of the perfect rice-to-water ratio, a mesh strainer, and a good ole rice cooker! Yaas!!
This is one of those: Set it, and forget it recipes. While it’s cooking, you can start prep for your main course, you can clean up, take a power nap, call your parents, get a quick workout in…I mean, the possibilities are endless!

How to Make Fool-Proof Brown Rice
Equipment
- Rice Cooker
- Mesh Strainer
Materials
- 2 cups brown rice
- 3 cups cold water
- a pinch pink salt optional
Instructions
- Measure out 2 cups of dry, uncooked brown rice.
- Using a mesh strainer, rinse rice under cool water for at least 30 seconds. This rinses some of the starch away and will prevent the rice from become when cooked.
- Transfer rice to the rice cooker. (Do not over-fill. Abide by your rice cooker's instructions in regard to limitations.)
- Add water and salt to the rice.
- Cover with top and turn rice cooker on. Sit back and relax. Your rice cooker will do all the work from here.
- When rice cooker shuts off. Let rice rest for an additional 10-15 min. Resist the urge to dive in right away. The flavor and texture is well worth it!
- Fluff rice with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula then serve alongside your favorite dish.
